March 23, 2007

Dear alumnae,

2006 passed by so quickly. We sent out our Valentine’s day gift to the Maryknoll Sisters worldwide on February 14, 2006. The sisters were very much surprised by the gifts and many were very grateful to have taught in Hong Kong. And it turned out that Feb. 14, 2006 is also the 95th Anniversary of Maryknoll Sisters Foundation Day. We couriered a total of 204 pounds of goodies to Maryknoll Mother House in New York and Monrovia in Southern Calfornia. Click HERE for the report.

In May, Sister Margaret Shepherd visited San Francisco Bay Area before she moved back to the Maryknoll Mother House from Monrovia for good. Judge Julie Tang and Magdalen Yum brought her to the Asian Arts Museum in San Francisco but they had to admit that we talked more than they viewed the exhibits. The Association organized a luncheon for her at the Hong Kong Flower Lounge and two smaller private dinners were held as well. She saw many of her students this time. Sister Margaret is always very particular about how she dresses, do you realize she wears matching color crosses all the time? See for yourself!!!
The Association also launched our website and we are trying our best to update the information.

We started off 2007 with a potluck lunch and thanksgiving mass said by Bishop Ignatius Wang at the home of Magdalen Yum on January 6, 2007. The day was greeted by beautiful sunny weather. Some 35 alumnae attended and with families. Bishop Wang started the mass saying that it is always very precious to be able to hear mass as a school community who shares the values of the Maryknoll Sisters’ education. He also went on saying that we should open our minds and hearts to learn from people we come across daily. He quoted a recent incident that he got an excellent insight from someone who has only 7 years of school education on how to enjoy instead of being frustrated about having a long lay over in between flights. His other message is to remind us not to let material things control or ruin our spirit and lives. His homily was both humorous and inspiring. During lunch, we did a raffle giving out Maryknoll Sisters Phone cards and the WWR luggage tags. Food was PLENTY and was So Good!!! Thanks to all who brought food. View here for the devoted crowd.

Not long after Chinese New Year, Sister Joan Delaney visited the SF Bay area and the Association organized another potluck lunch at Magdalen’s house in her honor on February 11, 2007. Twelve alumnae came. It was fun and Sister Joan was very happy. See the pictures for yourself.

You will be shocked and impressed how hard the Maryknoll Worldwide Reunion 2007 committee is working, according to Bob Giannini, the husband of Kathy Giannini, it is a full time job. The committee is religiously teleconferencing bi –weekly, designing the program book, getting advertisers and sponsors, registering participants, finalizing activities, mass choir rehearsing to name a few. Momentum is rising daily. The deadline has been lifted, 14 Maryknoll Sisters, a Columban sister, 5 teachers have signed up. Some of them have taught both at MCS and MSS. Visit www.maryknollwwr2007.org for more information. Sign up now if you have not done so. Contact Wendy , the WWR cruise director now!!! Download the Cruise registration forms: Word or PDF

Did you know that Maryknoll Convent School has been classified as a historical building by the Hong Kong Government recently? We are including the video clipping of MCS in this website. We are extremely proud of the Maryknoll Sisters.

2007 also mark the 80th anniversary for MSS and 70th for MCS. Celebrate, refresh our school spirit and reconnect with your classmates and teachers.

A photo gallery will be added to the website. Stay tuned. If you have any class events that you like to announce, feel free to contact Magdalen Yum or Judy Murray at Magdalensf2@yahoo.com or JudyCMurray@hotmail.com.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the WWR cruise in August, 2007.
God bless you all,

Magdalen Yum & Judy Murray
Presidents
